Question : EMERALD MINING IN RAJASTHAN



(a) whether the Government have given approval to any British Company for mining of emerald in Rajasthan;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether any survey has been conducted in this regard;

(e) the places in Rajasthan where such mining work is likely to be undertaken?

(a) No, Sir.

(b) Does not arise.

(c), (d) and (e) The Geological Survey of India (GSI) is conducting survey for emerald in Rajasthan and has reported that in geological mapping and petrological studies carried out, several ultramafic bodies intruded by Pegmatite and Tourmaline veins with possible development of emerald mineralisation have been identified between Kaliguman and Gaongurha areas in Rajsamand and Ajmer districts. The survey is in progress which is a continuous process.
