Question : Bridge on Brahmaputra

(a) the present status of the long pending public demand for construction of Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge over river Brahmaputra to connect the State of Assam and Meghalaya with the rest of the nation;

(b) whether the Government has ordered for preparation of DPR for Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge, if so, the details thereof;

(c) the reasons for delay in construction of this bridge;

(d) whether any consultations were held with the Ministry of Finance for budgetary allocation for construction of the bridge, if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the time by which it is likely to be started along with status of rehabilitation of people rendered homeless due to this project?

(a) to (c) The Detailed Project Report for construction of Dhubri-Phulbari bridge over river Brahmaputra to connect the State of Assam and Meghalaya is under preparation by the National Highway & Infrastructure Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). The draft DPR is presently under examination in consultation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

(d) The Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, has been requested for posing the project to JICA.

(e) It is too early to specify the time by when the project and rehabilitation od affected people is likely to start as it will depend on the acceptance of DPR by JICA.
