Question : SPORTS COMPLEXES OF CWG



(a) whether some of the sports complexes created/upgraded during the Commonwealth Games (CWG) have remained unutilised since the completion of the said Games;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the Government has opened such sports complexes on payment basis to the public for various sports in order to earn revenue and if so, the details thereof along with the revenue earned by the Government as a result thereof;

(d) whether the Government proposes to depute coaches for all the sports activities and to provide concession to the students and sportspersons on monthly basis; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT, ENTREPRENEURSHIP, YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS (SHRI SARBANANDA SONOWAL)

(a) & (b): No, Sir. The Commonwealth Games (CWG) Sports Complexes under Sports Authority of India (SAI) are utilized for Come & Play and Community Connect Schemes for the general public to avail the facilities of International standards so that budding sports person could achieve excellence in sports. National Coaching camps are also being organized in these stadia. Now, the stadia are also being given on rental basis for Sporting /Non Sporting events, other than the religious or political functions.

(c) Very nominal fee is being charged from the general public under ‘Come & Play’ & Community Connect Schemes and from the organizers of sports events.

(d) & (e): Sports Authority of India have already deployed Coaches to train the sports persons in various disciplines under Come & Play & Community Connect Schemes at the five stadia under its administrative control in Delhi, in various sports disciplines, as per details given below:-

1. Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium:

(i) Archery

(ii) Athletics

(iii) Badminton

(iv) Basketball

(v) Cricket

(vi) Football

(vii) Table Tennis

(viii) Volleyball

(ix) Weightlifting
2. Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium:
(i) Athletics

(ii) Cricket

(iii) Hockey

(iv) Kho-Kho Kabaddi

3. Indira Gandhi Stadium:
(i) Badminton

(ii) Basketball

(iii) Boxing

(iv) Cricket

(v) Cycling

(vi) Gymnastics

(vii) Handball

(viii) Judo

(ix) Table Tennis

4. Dr.Syama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool Complex:
(i) Basketball

(ii) Swimming

(iii) Volleyball

5. Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges:

(i) Basketball

(ii) Kho-kho Kabaddi

(iii) Volleyball

(iv) Shooting

The concession is given to the Arjuna & Droncharya Awardees, National Medal Winners, International players, Women and Children studying in Government Schools, and persons Below Poverty Line (BPL), as under:-

(i) Arjuna & Droncharya Awardees, National Medal Winners, International players and BPL persons are given Complementary membership.

(ii) Women and Children studying in Government Schools are given membership at 1/3 of the standard fees.
