Question : POLICY ON RURAL HABITAT



(a) whether a high level panel of Government officials, representatives from Private Sector and social workers has called for a separate policy on rural habitat with the Panchayati Raj Institutions as reported in the Hindu dated May 9, 2005;

(b) if so, whether the Government has framed any policy in this regard; and

(c) if not, the time by which it is likely to be framed and announced?

(a) During the Seminar reported in The Hindu May 9, 2005, no separate policy has been called for on Rural Habitats with Panchayati Raj Institutions but suggestions were made that Panchayati Raj Institutions be involved in the planning and development of Rural Habitats.

(b) No, Sir.

(c) Since this was a suggestion before a Seminar,it is pre-mature to conclude that this suggestion will be incorporated in the Policy.
