Question : Open Defecation

(a) whether as per the National Sample Survey Organisation, a large part of the population in the rural areas defecate in the open;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State/UTwise;

(c) the number of toilets constructed so far since launch of the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA) and Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), State and Programmewise;

(d) the funds allocated/released and utilised under these Programmes during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise; and

(e) the number of toilets constructed under Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA) in rural areas during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise?

(a) and (b) As per National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) Report 2012, 59.4% of rural households defecate in open. State/UT-wise details is at Annexure-1.

(c) The number of toilets constructed so far since launch of the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA)/Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), State/UT-wise is at Annexure-2.

(d) Since NBA/SBM(G) is demand driven scheme, hence no State-wise allocation is made. The State/UT-wise fund released and utilized under NBA/SBM during last 3 years and current year is at Annexure-3

(e) State/UT-wise, the number of toilets constructed under Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA) in rural areas during each of the last three years and the current year is at Annexure-4.
