Question : NALCO JOINT VENTURES ABROAD



(a) whether the National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has identified mineral assets in Chile, Namibia and Indonesia and is in the process of floating separate ventures in the foreign country to buy such reserves;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a)&(b): National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has informed that the Company has not identified any specific mineral assets in Chile, Namibia and Indonesia. However, the Company is exploring acquisition of minerals assets, particularly bauxite, copper, coal and uranium in various countries including Chile, Namibia and Indonesia. No separate venture has been floated by the Company.

(c): Ministry of Mines signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chile and Namibia for cooperation in the field of Geology and Mineral Resources. These MoUs inter alia envisage promotion of investment in the areas of mining and mining related activities.
