Question : AIR TRAFFIC AT PALAM AIRPORT



(a) whether there is a significant increase in the air traffic at the Palam Airport at Delhi;

(b) if so, whether due to increase in the air passengers traffic, the infrastructure at the Terminal 1B is not sufficient to handle the air traffic; and

(c) if so, the steps proposed to be taken to provide adequate infrastructure at the above Terminal to handle the air traffic?

(a) & (b):- Yes sir. During peak periods infrastructure constraints are being experienced at Terminal 1B.

(c) :- Steps are being taken by Airports Authority of India (AAI) to bring in use the unused portion of Terminal 1B to improve services to the passengers of low cost airlines. Further, it has been decided to upgrade and modernise the airport through public-private partnership aiming to make it a world-class airport. AAI has also taken steps for rapid exit taxi tracks, parallel taxi track to secondary runway and parking bays. Besides, AAI is also under taking steps to increase the number of aircrafts movements through improvement in procedures etc.
