Question : ADDITIONAL AMOUNT FOR NATIONAL HIGHWAYS IN KARNATAKA



(a) whether the Karnataka Government has sought an additional amount for the maintenance of newly declared National Highway No. 63 viz Ankola- Hubli-Hospet-Gooty Road;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto;

(c) whether the State Government has also sought an amount of Rs. 400 crore from the External sources like ADB/OECF/World Bank for the strengthening of Chitraguda-Sholapur section of National Highway No. 13;

(d) if so, whether the request has since been considered by the Government; and

(e) if so, the steps being taken by the Government to get the external assistance for this National Highway?

(a) & (b) Funds to State Government for maintenance are alloted for all National Highways in the State taken together and not Highway-wise. An amount of Rs. 34,10,99,000/- has been so far allocated to Karnataka Government during 1999-2000 for this purpose with in the available resources.
(c) to (e) State Government has proposed improvement of this Section of National Highways-13 from external funding. However, this is not a priority project for external assistance at this stage.
