Question : Changes in Marine Fisheries (Regulation and Management) Bill


(a) whether it is a fact that the Government is considering to make drastic changes in Marine Fisheries (Regulation and Management) Bill;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether it is also true that the coastal States would be allowed to retain the control of coastal fishing;
(d) whether it is also true that the State Government of Kerala has requested the Union Government to allow it to retain the coastal fishing; and
(e) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken/being taken by the Government in this regard?

(c): Yes sir.
(d) and(e): The Coastal States and Union Territories have been duly consulted in drafting of the National Marine Fisheries (Regulation and Management) Bill, which covers the area of Exclusive Economic Zone.
