Question : DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM INFRASTRUCTURE



(a) whether the Government has implemented any scheme to develop tourism infrastructure through Public-Private Partnership (PPP);

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the details of the projects sanctioned, funds allocated and released during each of the last three years and the current year including the present status of each of these projects;

(c) whether there is any proposal from the State of Tamil Nadu to develop tourism infrastructure under PPP mode; and

(d) if so, the details and the status thereof, scheme/project-wise?

STATEMENT IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.172 ANSWERED ON 09.03.2015 REGARDING DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM INFRASTRUCTURE.

(a) to (d): The Ministry of Tourism has a scheme of Assistance for Large Revenue Generating (LRG) Projects for development of tourism infrastructure, in order to bring in private sector, corporate and institutional resources as well as techno-managerial efficiency. The projects admissible under this scheme should be of tourist’s attraction or used by tourists to generate revenue through levy of fee or user charges on the visitors.

Some of the important items which are covered under this scheme are: Tourist trains, Cruise vessels, Cruise Terminals, Convention Centres, Golf Courses, Health and Rejuvenation facilities and last mile connectivity to tourist destinations, etc.

The subsidy under the scheme has a cap of Rs.50.00 crore subject to a maximum of 25% of total project cost or 50% of equity contribution of the promoters, whichever is lower. Projects sanctioned in this scheme so far are mainly luxury tourist trains, ropeways, development of golf courses, etc.

No project proposal has been received from the State of Tamil Nadu for Tourism Infrastructure under PPP Mode.

The number of LRG Projects and amount sanctioned during the last three years and the current year is given in the Annexure.
