Question : Demand and Allocation of Natural Gas

(a) whether the natural gas being supplied to various States/Union Territories is not in accordance with its demand in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof State/UT-wise and the reasons therefor;
(c) whether the Union Government has received any requests from various States/UTs particularly Northern States for additional allocation of natural gas to meet the requirement adequately;
(d) if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise including Uttar Pradesh; and
(e) the action taken/being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) to (e): The domestic natural gas is being supplied to industries/sectors as per the allocation made by the Government from time to time as per gas allocation policies. As per prevailing policy, following are the priorities for the allocation of APM/Non-APM Natural Gas (i) CNG (Transport) and PNG (Domestic) in City Gas Distribution Networks; (ii) Gas-based fertilizers plants (Urea); (iii) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) plants; (iv) Power plants supplying to the Grid; and others. The States from time to time recommend cases for gas allocation, which is examined against extant policies. LNG is imported under Open General License based on mutual agreement amongst buyers and sellers.
