(b) No, Madam. The number of research scholars in CSIR institutes during 2015-16 was 1526 which has increased to 1967 during 2018-19 (current year).

(c) Does not arise.

(d) CSIR has recently increased the number of JRF-NET fellowships by 100% through CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted in December 2017. It is evident from the fact that in the NET conducted in December 2017, the number of JRF-NET awarded by CSIR for financial support are 4060 compared to 2029 awarded in NET conducted in June 2017. It is further stated that CSIR’s JRF-NET students are free to join any University and R&D institution of their choice including CSIR laboratories to advance their research career and therefore increase in number of JRF-NET fellowship awarded by CSIR will have a positive impact on their joining in CSIR institutes as CSIR laboratories offer the research students the state-of-art infrastructure facilities.
