Question : RECRUITMENT OF LECTURERS AND READERS IN TAMIL NADU



(a) whether the Government are aware that the Universities and colleges functioning in Tamil Nadu are not following UGC norms in the appointment of lecturers and readers;

(b) if so, the facts thereof; and

(c) the action taken/proposed to be taken by the Government against such colleges/University authorities for flouting the UGC norms?

(a) to (c): According to the information received from the University Grants Commission, the University of Madras and Bharathidasan University had written to the UGC regarding amendments made by their Academic Councils and the Syndicates on the minimum qualifications for appointment and service conditions of teachers. On perusal, the UGC found that the proviso were contrary to the UGC Regulations. The UGC immediately wrote to the Universities to withdraw such proviso, which were contrary to the UGC Regulations.
