Question : Vocational Training Institutes in Rural Areas

(a) whether the Government proposes to promote vocational training institutes in rural areas;

(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(c) whether such institutes have been identified for rural areas; and

(d) if so, the details thereof, location-wise; and

(e) the time by which such institutes are likely to be set up and the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

Answer given by the minister

(a) to (e) There is a network of 12,106 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) (Govt.- 2,285 and Private- 9,821) affiliated to National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) under the Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. These ITIs are located in rural and urban areas.

Besides, to promote private training providers across the Country, Government has set up the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) as a public private entity. As on 30th June, 2015, the 211 NSDC affiliated training partners, have 3669 operational training centres, including 745 mobile centres across the Country. Many of these centres are located in the rural areas.

Further, setting-up of new ITIs and skill training centres is a continuous process.
