Question : HOUSING IN DELHI



(a) whether the Government propose to provide proper housing to make Delhi clean and imbue it with salubrious environment;

(b) if so, whether the Government have initiated an action to achieve the target in this regard;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government have identified the factors responsible for unhygienic Delhi;

(e) if so, the details in this regard; and

(f) the reasons for the prevalence of these factors in Delhi?

(a): Yes, Sir,

(b)&(c):
(i) DDA has constructed 2.88 lakh dwelling units and indirectly facilitated raising of 7.79 lakh dwelling units through allotment of plots for plotted and cooperative housing development.

(ii) Stress has been laid to provide, promote and protect the greens.

(iii) Better solid waste management practices have been initiated.

(iv) To improve the living conditions of JJ dwellers, a three-pronged strategy is being implemented through the Slum & JJ Department of the MCD. The schemes being implemented are:

(a) Environemental improvement in Urban Slums (EIUS)

(b) In situ upgradation

(c) Relocation of JJ Clusters.

(d)to(f): Some of the factors responsible for prevalence of unhygienic conditions in Delhi are:-

(i) Multiplication of slums and unauthorised colonies in violation of building & planning norms.

(ii) Industrial pollution.

(iii) Lack of proper management of solid and liquid waste emanating from domestic and industrial waste, etc.

(iv) Open defecation by a very large number of persons in different parts of the city-in the greens, on the pavements, along the railway lines and open areas.

(v) Old katras with high density and inaduate services.

(vi) Inadequate availability of potable water.

(vii) Unsewered areas.

(viii) Large cattle population inside the city.

(ix) Migration of large number of people in Delhi every year for employment, education, medical, etc. facilities available in Delhi.
