(a) whether any Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed with the American Association of Physicians of Indian origin in the health sector for treatment of various diseases;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to set up Welfare Centres in the country through the Non-Resident Indians;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the details of the problems being faced in setting up of the said centres?

MINISTER OF THE STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF OVERSEAS INDIAN AFFAIRS (SHRI VAYALAR RAVI)

(a) and (b): The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) to strengthen the public-private partnership mode of social sector development and lead overseas Indian resources into social sectors in India to provide for better rural health-care.

The objective is to share the knowledge and expertise of Overseas Indians. Innovative health care delivery system are being introduced through two pilot projects in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar that can then constitute models for replication in other States.The Projects are under implementation in both the States.
