Eighth sectoral summit of North Eastern council begins

The 8th Sectoral Summit of NEC began in New Delhi today at Vigyan Bhawan. This Summit focuses on issues pertaining to Education, Sports and Art & Culture in the Northeastern region. The Human Resource Development Ministry representatives made various presentations on policies and programmes in the northeast region related to education, like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, National Literacy Mission etc. The issues were discussed by the representatives of Northeastern states present at the Conference.

Projects and Programmes related to Sports and Youth Affairs were also discussed on the Day one of the Summit. The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs made presentations on various programmes being implemented in the northeastern regions. The representatives of the northeastern States brought out their perspectives and progress and the need for further development in the area of sports and youth affairs. The Summit is being attended by S/Shri S.S.Sidhu (Governor, Manipur), S.K. Singh (Governor Arunchal Pradesh) , B.L Joshi, (Governor Meghalaya), Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Ajay Singh (Governor, Assam), D.N. Sahaya (Governor, Tripura), Neiphiu Rio (Chief Minister, Nagaland), Sushma Singh, Secretary (DoNER), Falguni Rajkumar, Secretary NEC and senior State Government officials from the Northeast, among others. Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar, Minister for Panchayati Raj, Youth Affairs & Sports and DoNER is chairing the Summit. There will be presentations and discussions on Art and Culture on day two of the Summit i.e. tomorrow.
