Railways revenue earnings register record growth during April–October 2005; exceed targets

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period from 1st April 2005 to 31st October 2005 were Rs. 29933.68 crores compared to Rs. 26067.29 crores during the corresponding period last year marking an increase of 14.83%. The total earnings were 4.87% more than the Budget target of Rs. 28544.16 crores.

The total goods earnings of Rs. 19861.93 crores have shown an increase of 17.32% during the period of April-October 2005 over Rs. 16929.60 crores for corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 6.25% over the Budget target of Rs. 18693.09 crores for the same period.

There is also an increase of 19.44% in revenue earnings from other coaching during this period with earnings of Rs. 660.97 crores compared to Rs. 553.37 crores during the same period last year, which is 8.83% more than the Budget target of Rs. 607.34 crores for the same period.

The total passenger revenue earnings on originating basis during this period was Rs.8876.87 crores with an increase of 8.89% over Rs. 8152.22 crores during the same period last year. The total passenger earnings were 2.51% more than the Budget target of Rs. 8659.37 crores for the same period.

The total approximate number of passengers booked during the period from 1st April to 31st October 2005 were 3385.58 millions compared to 3180.82 millions during the same period last year showing an increase of 6.44%. In the suburban section, the total number of passengers booked during the above-mentioned period were 1896.39 millions and in non-suburban it was 1489.19 millions with an increase of 4.17% and 9.47% compared to 1820.42 millions and 1360.40 millions respectively during the same period last year.
