The Railways are aware of the long pending demand of the extension of suburban rail line between Tiruvanmiyur and St. Thomas Mount in Chennai. The work on the railway line from Taramani to Velachery is in progress. The section from Velachery to St. Thomas Mount has been included in the Railway Budget, 2006-07. Reconfirmation from State Government for sharing 2/3rd cost of the project has been requested.
