Question : Establishment and Strengthening of Veterinary Hospitals and Dispensaries

(a) the details of veterinary hospitals/dispensaries functioning in the rural areas of the country as on date, State-wise;
(b) the details of funds provided to these veterinary hospitals/dispensaries during the last three years and the current financial year, State-wise;
(c) whether the Government has proposed to open new veterinary hospitals/dispensaries in the country particularly in the rural areas deprived of such facilities;
(d) if so, the details thereof, State-wise; and
(e) the time by which the above veterinary hospitals/dispensaries are likely to be opened in all the villages of the country?

(a) There are 12129 Veterinary Hospitals, 25597 Veterinary Dispensaries and 28168 Veterinary Aid Centres /Stockman Centres /Mobile Dispensaries in the country. The state-wise details of these Veterinary Institutions is at Annexure-1.

(b) The Department has released Rs.304.48 lakh, Rs.719.80 lakh and Rs.247.05 lakh during 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20, respectively, under “Establishment &Strengthening of Veterinary Hospitals & Dispensaries (ESVHD)” a component under the centrally sponsored Livestock Health & Disease Control (LH&DC) scheme.The details of funds released to the states is annexed as Annexure-II.

(c) To (e) Veterinary hospitals and dispensaries are set up by States/Union Territories. However, in order to supplement the efforts of the States/ Union Territory Governments, Central Government is implementing the“Establishment & Strengthening of Veterinary Hospitals & Dispensaries (ESVHD)”, a component under the centrally sponsored Livestock Health & Disease Control (LH&DC) scheme, to provide financial assistance for establishment & strengthening of veterinary hospitals & dispensaries as well as for running of mobile veterinary clinics.
