Question : SCHEMES TO DEVELOP SPORTS



(a) the details of the schemes implemented for the development of sports in Karnataka in the current financial year;

(b) the amount allocated for such schemes and the details of items upon which this amount was spent;

(c) whether any proposal is under consideration for construction of an international level stadium in Karnataka; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT, ENTREPRENEURSHIP, YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS (SHRI SARBANANDA SONOWAL)

(a) In the current financial year the Central Government is implementing a Scheme called Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan (RGKA).Under this Scheme, it is proposed to construct a sports complex in each block, both for outdoor and indoor sports disciplines. Details of the RGKA Scheme is placed at Annexure – I. The Central Government is also implementing the Urban Sports Infrastructure Scheme (USIS) under which 100% financial assistance, subject to prescribed ceiling is provided to (a) State Governments; (b) Local Civic Bodies; (c) School, Colleges and Universities under Central/State Governments; and (d) Sports Control Boards for development of the
(i) Synthetic playing surface (for hockey, football and athletics); and
(ii) Multipurpose indoor hall. Revised guidelines have been issued for the USIS. Both the above schemes are being implemented throughout the country including the State of Karnataka.

In addition, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) is also implementing various sports promotional schemes. The State of Karnataka is covered under the Netaji Subhash Southern Centre, Bangalore, of the SAI, and comprises SAI Training Centre, Bangalore, SAI Training Centre, Dharwad, and Centre of Excellence, Bangalore.

(b) The amount of allocation for the RGKA and USIS scheme for the current financial year is Rs 200 crores and Rs 40 crores respectively. The RGKA was initiated from the current Financial Year 2014-15 and proposals are being obtained from the States/UTs. Proposals received under USIS are being examined to ascertain their admissibility based on the revised guidelines.
