Question : National Business Register

(a) whether the Government has launched an enumeration exercise to collect data on all the business enterprises for the National Business Register;

(b) if so, the details and the objectives thereof;

(c) the time by which the data collection for National Business Register is likely to be completed;

(d) whether the Government also proposes to develop an electronic database of all such information to strengthen assessment of economic activities; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) to (e): The Government has not launched any exercise to collect data on all the business enterprises for the National Business Register. However, a Directory of Establishments employing ten or more workers involved in economic activities other than crop production, plantation, public administration, defence and compulsory social security has been drafted based on Sixth Economic Census data collected during January 2013 to April 2014. The process of its validation with the help of the State/UT Directorates of Economics and Statistics is in progress. This directory (in electronic form) is used by various organisations/agencies for conducting Socio-economic sample surveys apart from local level planning purposes.
