Question : CLOSED INDUSTRIAL UNITS



(a) the State-wise number of industries closed down due to labour dispute during the year 2000;

(b) the details of the loss suffered by the Union Government due to closing of such industries;

(c) whether the Union Government have taken any action to settle these disputes;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) State-wise number of industries closed down due to various reasons during the year 2000 ( January to September ) is as given in Annexure.

(b) Such information is not maintained by Ministry of Labour.

(c) to (d): The Government has been conducting conciliation proceedings to avert strikes, lockouts and labour disputes to establish better industrial relations in the Central Sphere. A tripartite mechanism has been established for encouraging social dialogue. The Government has also been emphasizing the important role of workers` participation in management so as to bring about more harmonious industrial relations. These steps are expected to foster better industrial relations and result in minimizing the labour disputes.
