Question : FUNDS SPENT FOR REST AREAS BY NHAI



(a) the amount spent by National Highways Authority of India on Rest Areas of National Highways in the country and particularly in Orissa in 1998-99 and the current year;

(b) the budget earmarked for this purpose in the current year;

(c) whether any design has been evolved in regard to the road safety; and

(d) if so, the steps proposed to utilize such design throughout the country?

(c) & (d): A Manual for Safety in Road Design has been brought out by this Ministry. Indian Roads Congress has also published a number of standards concerning safety in the design, construction and maintenance of roads and bridges. These are being used for National Highways works throughout the country.
