Question : SPORTS WELFARE SCHEMES



(a) whether the Government proposes to develop the games village situated in Udaipur in Rajasthan;

(b) if so, the funds allocated for the said purpose and if not, the reasons therefor;

(c) whether there is any provision for providing government jobs, houses, land, etc. to sportspersons who have taken part in national, international, Asiad and Olympic events and won medals therein; and

(d) if so, the number of sportspersons in Rajasthan who have been provided the said facilities along with the details thereof?

THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT, ENTERPRENEURSHIP, YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS (SHRI SARBANANDA SONOWAL)

(a) No, Madam.

(b) The Ministry of Youth Afairs & Sports has not allocated any funds for developing games village situated in Udaipur (Rajasthan). Since ‘Sports’ is a State Subject, it is the responsibility of State Government of Rajasthan.

(c) Central Government provides reservation for meritorious sportspersons in Group ‘C’ and erstwhile Group ‘D’ posts upto 5% of direct recruit vacancies in Central Government offices.

(d) The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports does not maintain data about number of sportspersons recruited against vacancies reserved for meritorious sportspersons in Central Government Offices or in State Governments or land, houses etc. provided to sportspersons by State Governments.
