Question : GDP GROWTH



(a) whether the confronted with the challenging task of doubling per capita income and accelerating GDP growth to 8 per cent per annum. Planning Commission have sought a whopping 18 per cent in gross budgetary support for the 2003-04 annual plan;

(b) if so, the details in this regard;

(c) the present position of request; and

(d) the time by which it is likely to be cleared?

(a) to (d): Planning Commission have proposed a budgetary support of Rs.1,34,064 crore for the Annual Plan 2003-04 as against the budgetary support of Rs.1,13,500 crore for the current year`s (2002-03) Annual Plan, in order to fulfill National Development Council mandated objectives for the Tenth Plan i.e. doubling per capita income in ten years and growth rate of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 8 per cent per annum. Government`s proposal in this regard will be placed before the Parliament for consideration alongwith the annual budget, 2003-04.
