Question : SAFETY OF INDIANS ABROAD



(a) the total number of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) who became victims of terrorist activities during the last three years;

(b) whether any concrete scheme is being prepared by the Government to ensure that NRIs do not get affected by any terrorist activities in future;

(c) if so, the details in this regard;

(d) whether any agreements have been signed with various countries particularly Pakistan regarding the safety of emigrant Indians; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

MINISTER OF STATE OVERSEAS INDIAN AFFAIRS (GENERAL V.K. SINGH (RETD.))

(a) As reported by the Indian Missions/Posts abroad, a total of 86 NRIs in Iraq, 10 NRIs in Kenya and 3 NRIs in Y emen have became victims of terrorist activities during the last three years.

(b) & (c) The Government of India issues necessary advisories to warn NRIs of possibility of terrorist incidents in the country where such NRIs are working. The Missions also facilitate evacuation when it is called for.

(d) & (e) No, Madam. No specific agreements regarding safety of emigrant Indians have been signed with any country.
